Re: reds indoor range in austin

Sounds nice... But due to crazy work hours I am not able to commit to their "mandatory volunteer service for range days and events" that is my main reason I have not attempted to join ARC.

Re: reds indoor range in austin

Accidental... Negligent... Intended... It's still a shooting with injury or death...

I know of one death (parking lot negligent discharge guy apparently shot himself in the chest inside his car) at reds north... A lady died at reds south(if memory serves correctly)

If you look at the stalls (countertops are dented from visible bullet impacts some still have projectiles loges in them or possibly a ballpien hammer) small chunks are taken out of the concrete walls and floor(I can understand bullet impacts on the side walls 15-20 ft/yds down range but 4-6 feet or less from the firing line???)I personally don't feel safe with all the idiots out there.

I wish I could find a private range/club that wasn't so expensive and was close to Austin

Re: reds indoor range in austin

I've had too many bad experiences at reds in pflugervile... The only time I go is requalification for my state security licenses... 20 minutes(tops) on the range 50 rounds in and out because my company pays for it...

Gunshop spec ops (customer in black bdus and skin tight black tshirt wearing a black webbing load bearing vest stacked with ar15 and glock mags)telling his girlfriend(I assume) that the take down switches on a glock are the safety..." If you pull this up you cannot fire the weapon" and this glock 19 takes this 32 round magazine of 40 caliber cartridges that is just as fast as 9mm and hits harder than a 45...

Another guy shooting his ar15 with a bump fire stock....lets loose a volley of fire that put 4 lanes out of commission for the day with no reprimand and I get scolded for double taps at 15 yds from a mkII ruger pistol(with a nice ragged hole that could have been covered with a coffee cup with space inside to spare)

Re: reds indoor range in austin

I've had that happen as well "1911" loaded and locked... Sat it on the counter of the shooting bay motioned a friend over to shoot it... "Range safety officer" comes in between us while I am in the bay steps behind me takes off the safety drops the mag and clears the chamber while I am still inside the yellow marked shooting area. I packed my stuff up went inside and made my opinion heard by the entire staff and all customers inside. Basically stating that I have been coming here for the last x# of years and I have never ever had a safety officer gently move me out of the way grab my firearm off the counter when another shooter was within 3 feet of picking it up... Not to mention while dropping the magazine pointed the firearm at the wall of the shooting stall (where another shooter was engaging their target) and I'm the reckless one in this place for placing a firearm on the counter with the safety on.

Re: reds indoor range in austin

Blackgold what area do you live? Because there are better ranges than reds. Every time I go to check zero on my rifles there tends to be a guy with an ak or ar variant that has no problem emptying that evil 30 round mag in about 30 seconds... I personally have no issue with that if they would keep the bullets on their target... Weather and time permitting I prefer to drive a bit fartherand go to a range where I can have an enjoyable experience.

Re: reds indoor range in austin

I thought ladies night was Monday??? Or did they change it???

Haven't been to reds in a while I usually prefer outdoor ranges... Favorite is lone star (Lockhart) make a day out of it... My wife calls it a bullets and blacks day.
