When did LEO become exempt from taking the CHL course. For about the first fifteen years of Texas CHL they took the class to get a license. It was really interesting when I had a class with civilians, LEO's, and lawyers all in the same long ten (10) hour class when we covered weapons, non-violent dispute resolution, and use of force.

I have had many LEO's take the Texas CHL class. It's less trouble when carrying out of state to show a CHL license. Once you retire from a department with a CHL you are not required to qualify with your department every year in order to carry. Department policy may have restrictions for off duty carry. Some may want to know what we're teaching and a view of the laws from a civilian viewpoint. A little research and you will find many members of this forum are active, retired, or former LEO's.
