Re: e-mail from student about road raging motorcyclist
We don't have enough facts to determine whether the driver's actions were justified. He could have been texting, chatting on the phone, eating, fiddling with his GPS or radio, reading a newspaper or book, shaving, having sex, putting out a burning bit of weed in his crotch (I've seen them all). He c...

Re: Bill to eliminate Texas reciprocity
However several states disallow already what you and other people are doing or did, Arizona is one if I remember correctly I think Florida is too, they do not allow a non resident license if you live in that state as a permanent resident( Charles explanation aside) if you are a permanent resident o...

Re: Bill to eliminate Texas reciprocity
I did not know that you had to take a test when you move to Texas and turn in your out of state DL for a Texas DL. You don't. At least I didn't have to when I moved back 10 years ago. Getting to the main point, though. According to Sen. Hinojosa's statement of intent filed with the bill, it is to e...

Re: Bill to eliminate Texas reciprocity
I think it would be one thing if a non-resident permit holder had a period of time after establishing domicile in Texas to take the course so that they are familiar with Texas law. But this bill makes a non-resident permit holder start over again. I suggested a compromise to my state senator: 90 day...

Re: Cornyn Introduces Amendment into Gun Control Bill
Although the Cornyn amendment was defeated in the Senate, H.R.578, which is substantively identical, is still in committee in the House. So there is still hope for those of us who, for one reason or another, carry under non-Texas licenses.

Re: Bill to eliminate Texas reciprocity
They do require you to get a TX driver's license and register your cars in TX after you move here so that would be in line with that. They want the revenue. The driver's license/car registration analogy fails for two reasons: First, unlike cars and trucks, last I checked no one has ever required me...

Bill to eliminate Texas reciprocity
Those of you who carry in Texas with another state's license may want to keep an eye on SB 481, which would prohibit the use of a non-Texas CHL permit under a reciprocity agreement. The bill, authored by Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa (D-McAllen), was favorably reported out of the Senate Criminal Ju...

Re: "Continuation without a finding" = Texas conviction?
Just back from fingerprinting. I guess we will see what happens. I do know that I've had a background check or two related to work and there have been no problems. Thank you all for your advice and support. I'll keep you posted.

Re: "Continuation without a finding" = Texas conviction?
Thanks, Baldeagle. I got a break on the fee since I'm a veteran, so it wouldn't be too bad even if I have to wait.

Re: "Continuation without a finding" = Texas conviction?
There are no restraining orders in effect, and haven't been for at least eight years. There is no plea of guilty or nolo contendre in the CWOF process. Basically, one admits that the facts, if true , could warrant a finding of guilty. It's a device to allow judges to get someone's attention without ...

"Continuation without a finding" = Texas conviction?
I had a couple of unfortunate episodes with a woman in Massachusetts 9-10 years ago. Only criminal involvement in my life, before or after. Charges of domestic assault and violation of a restraining order. Both were "continued without a finding" in Massachusetts. Massachusetts does not con...
