Re: Wife just stopped by Childress PD

Most cops won't write someone in scrubs with a medical staff badge on either. Rarely will an ER nurse get written, if the cop knows him/her, or they have their ID on. They all know they may be looking up at our face one day and hoping we can stop the bleeding...save their life. Why they would bother to write a brother officer is way beyond me.

I am sorry I hijacked this thread. I guess it is something that was kind of simmering on the back burner. I will butt out of it now.

Re: Wife just stopped by Childress PD

Like it is often mentioned here, most any cop can find a reason to cite you if he follows you for a couple of minutes. I got cited, a couple of years ago, in Whitehouse, when I crossed a double yellow line to get into the left turn lane. I had watched people doing this for years. I had seen Whitehouse cops, DPS, motorcycle cops...everyone. This guy stops me and says, "People have been complaining, so we are writing tickets for this". Gee, why not write a warning? Guess it is because warnings do not generate $250 bucks in revenue. I had not gotten a ticket, before that, since Christmas day of 1981.

When push comes to shove, however, you are right. If you break the law, you break the law. When you get stopped for going one mile over, you broke the law. If you accidentally wander over the mid-line, you broke the law, if you activate your turn signal only 50 feet from your turn, you broke the law. However, where is the common sense. Doesn't a PD want to feel the support of the community? Don't they want to feel proud of how they are perceived? They don't have any respect that I have heard of. I will honor them, I will try to stay within the confines of any law on the books. I have lived my life honorably, and I go to great lengths to not violate the law. It drives my wife nuts that I will not go over the speed limit.

Oh, well...rant mode de-activated.

Also be glad it was not Whitehouse. They have no mercy. Even the Tyler cops have very little regard for them. Here is one example of why. I was taking my son to his elementary school, in Whitehouse. There is a car that has been pulled off, civilian car. In it is a uniformed officer from the Tyler PD who was evidentally taking his kid to school. The Whitehouse cop is busily writing up a ticket, and the Tyler PD officer is busily looking disgusted. My guess is most of these guys need to stay out of Tyler. I don't think they want to get stopped by their fellow LEO there.
