If the Republicans can't do better than weak sauce FUD then Obama will be reelected by a landslide. :totap:
Maybe you have a good reason to be skeptical. :???: Obama had both houses of congress w/ a supermajority in the senate and could have clearly pushed through another "assault weapons ban." What would have stopped him? Not the overwhelmingly democratic congress...Like Lighting says, Obama wanted to push some other stuff through, it's about priorities.

The new Obama administration did give early signals that the AWB would be reinstated. He also talked big about immigration reform going into the 2008 election, but that also never got anywhere with his democratic congress. In fact, Obama chose to use his democratic congress to implement some truly "historic" changes - besides, Clinton already pushed through an AWB (& look what happened to congress after that).

Timing was definitely a factor, because in 2010 you wont find any more real talk about an AWB. They made a smart political calculation that it wouldn't help them keep the congress (just like they delayed the full implementation of 'Obamacare' until 2014 - it helped them politically to back-end the massive costs and misery).

The Obama admin has since purposely dodged questions about about reinstatement of the AWB and avoided specifics on any other national gun-control efforts. Again, it's smart politically for them to keep any voters that "cling" to their guns but otherwise match up well with the dems. This political approach works well against someone w/ Romney's history.

Of course, I could be completely wrong and the real reason they haven't actively sought to implement new national gun-control is because Fast & Furious blew up in their faces and they aren't that brazen...yet.
