Possible conflict for renewal

My license expires in early September of this year. I expect to see my renewal notice in early March. Is that realistic? I figured I would take the class in April but I'm bid on a job that will have me working seven days a week with unpredictable breaks in Louisiana for three months. It could start any time in March or April as far as I know now. I'd like to get this out of the way asap if possible.

Can I take the class any time less than six months before expiration which would be early March even if I don't have the notice yet? If the job starts in early March and ends around early June and I have to do it then am I cutting it too close? As I understand it turnaround times are running about 60 days, my first time it was 83 days. Which way is it going?
