I am sure it's a point the anti-gun crowd will make when they try to argue this. They can run my VIN, no problem. I don't wan't them running the serial no. off my gun. It's not my car they want to confiscate.
Serial number gets run, goes into a database so they know where to look to confiscate it later. Same as registration.
