That fixes this problem....the larger problem still exists. Extensive govt $$ and control in far too many area of our lives. This mess took a long time to create, I am betting it will take a long time o clean up.

Re: obamacare upheld
I have to agree with you Kardar.....My mom works at a school that services people of varying financial and melanin statuses. There was a certain demographic that yesterday was celebrating because they were getting "free healthcare" and when asked who was going to pay for it "the gov't will." My mom is not of that opinion but the majority of the staff was, so how do you educate people who choose to close their eyes to the truth.

Yeah I do worry about th some.VMI77 wrote:It occurs to me that perhaps the non-behavior tax you should worry about is a tax on not sending your children to public schools. Granted, you pay school taxes, but the school has to forgo Federal matching funds without your children in attendance. Is that fair? --you're taking money right out of the school's pocket (using liberal logic here...the same kind that seems to hold that the government isn't taking your property when it withholds your tax refund).mamabearCali wrote:So I should be happy that my husband and I are getting ripped off to the tune of several hundred dollars each month? Oh you mean that thing my husband and I are forced to contribute to but will never EVER see a penny of.....yeah that is just how I hope lifesaving treatment is handled here in the US.

Re: obamacare upheld
Oh so instead of throwing my parents in jail because he lost his job and his health care benefits(a direct result of this bills passage) and my mom works for a tiny private school. This bill will just take what little money they have left to keep the house payment and feed themselves. Thanks, I feel so much better.
As a side note I didn't like the patriot act either. Of course I have noticed that the dems have been surprisingly silent on it now that they are ruling the roost. Not a whiff of a repeal heard on that one.

gdanaher wrote:There are those amongst us whose health is so poor that they, until recently, did not qualify for any kind of health insurance, at any price. I know this to be true because for a long time, one of my children who inherited a bad set of genes from his birth parents, could not find any company to cover him, at any price. Yes, his medical problems are quite expensive. He lucked into a job offering a group policy that accepted preexisting conditions. Not everyone is so lucky. As you critique the health care system, keep in mind that it could be any one of you with similar issues and thank G-d that it isn't you.
There are solutions to hard situations like this. We as a people should find those soutions. However this law will likely not help him in the end. Rationing of care is in this bill, it will be people like him that will be affected most. So is law will deprive me and mine of freedom of choice and will likely not give your son the help he needs.

BillT wrote:To coin and old phrase...."America, love it or leave it". Today, as always, I am a proud American. For those of you so upset, there are a number of countries that would be more than happy to consider your immigration application. Americans are the model for the world, I've seen this with my own eyes as I have lived in and traveled extensively around the world for almost 40 years. In my humble opinion, there is no better place that shows democracy at work better than my country.
Just out of curiosity, is there anyone on this forum that wants health insurance but cannot get it at a price they can afford? Anyone have a chronic and severe health condition for which they are willing to forgo health care with potentially fatal consequences or worse yet your own child in that situation? I see a lot of crying and complaining, but alternative solutions to a very real problem facing millions of Americans is conspicuously absent from these post as well as the Republican leadership. If Republicans plan to run on a platform of repealing the Affordable Healthcare Act, then they better come up with an alternative solution to the problem. Otherwise the majority of Americans will vote to keep them out of office. For the record, I work for a small business. I pay dearly for my health insurance. I feel very fortunate in life and would be willing to contribute a little more of my disposable income for the benefit of those less fortunate to help solve this humanitarian issue. I'm guessing I'm in a very small minority in this forum, but not in the USA.
Know what--if you liked socialized healthcare so much there were many countries you could have moved to. Our system was not perfect by a long shot, however, all those lovely countries with socialized healthcare have a booming private care system because of the short fallings of the state care. If that was not enough often when they could not get treatment there they came here. I liked my America the way it was when I was born--not that long ago (1980).

Re: obamacare upheld
Well if a business did what the president and the congress did in it's passage then defense of the bill they would be thrown in jail for fraud. It is similar to calling person to buy a milking jersey cow paying for it and showing up at the farmers market and seeing a wether goat in it's place.

Re: obamacare upheld
Neither was it his job to redefine a "fine" into a "tax" Heaven help us all. His job was to be an umpire and call balls and strikes. Not to redefine terms in a bill and help the Obama administration pull a bait and switch fraud.
However I will agree with you that this is because of the elections in 06' and 08'. Elections have consequences, and sometimes those consequences can and will last generations. Heaven help us all.

My children are 7, 5, 2 and 6 months. It broke my heart to go downstairs after hearing the verdict and see their smiling faces so expectant so hopeful. They will not live with the same freedom their grandparents did. The verdict set up a terrible precedent that they will have to live with. Heaven help us all.

So many children with very serious, life threatening diseases, and who don't know a thing about politics where just granted the opportunity of life. Maybe this country is beginning to find it's moral compass! For those of you that are upset by this I suggest you consider that we are not Human Beings having a Spiritual experience but that we are Spiritual beings having a Human experience...
The ends do not justify the means....the supreme court has said that congress can now tax non-behavior. The sets precendent....how long till not buying a hybrid car comes with a nasty tax.....how long till not recycling results in a nasty tax....this about more than just health care. Certainly I want people to have the medical treatment they need, but not by this means. Your rejoice for children....do you know that it is the very young, the very old and those that are life-limited that will experience the worst of the medical rationing of this travesty.

With the precedent, there are other laws that can be passed that inflict further horrors.
Exactly..now anything can be forced upon us as a tax. Govt wants to force you to eat bananas....if you don't buy bananas pay a tax. Gov wants to force you to use green energy...if you don't-- pay a tax. What a pandoras box.
