I don't use it . I'd never heard of it. I was there earlier in the week and no one asked me then either so I guess they just started asking.

I talked to two different folks there; after I'd finished in the range, I asked again what the brands were and wrote them down. The second person told me they were typically sold at the big box stores and were the least expensive. He said they actually cut into the bullet on a round. I'm glad they pay attention; steel in a closed environment is not good for anyone.

I find unused rounds there all the time and I never use them. You just don't know what it is; the case marking is immaterial since it could be reloaded. I want to know exactly what I'm shooting.

Heard at Bullet Trap: Redux

Fyi...

Went to the Bullet Trap today. They asked the usual question "what are you shooting to day?" I said 9mm. They said "what kind?" I said Kahr. They said "no, what brand of ammo?"

Turns out that they have found by cutting into the bullets of the cartridges that Tulammo, Wolf, and Bear brands have steel jackets on some of their products and they won't allow it to be used there due to the possibility of excessive penetration of their backstops and the possibility of shattering and ricochets. Also they said the wear on the barrel would be excessive and that should concern the gun owner. I've never used these brands.

I browsed the Tulammo site and found a reference to "copper or bi-metal jacket. The bi-metal is perhaps steel and copper plate?

All very strange. :headscratch
