That was exactly how I would recommend it for weak lefties. You basically hold the gun in your right hand across your chest, muzzle facing left, like you're going after someone at 9 o'clock. Grip the top of the slide with your left hand, thumb side at your chest. Watch the angle of your left elbow, in case of an AD. PUSH with your right hand, while getting a good grip with your left. Also, if the size of the gun doesn't matter, I'd look at a Walther, PK380. It's one of the easiest weapons to rack I've ever held. Low recoil, too. Both my elderly Dad and Mom can both do it.
