Had a SOG multi-tool and the knife snapped in half going straight into my hand. Never again. I'll stick with Kershaw if I want cheap.

The OP did ask about knives for self defense purposes, not utility.

If I'm in a situation where I'm going to use my knife for SD, I might as well just use my gun.

I just carry a $35 Kershaw. I tend to lose my knifes. It's durable and gets the job done.
