your movie theater story sounds similar to something that happened to my family several years back in Houston. i want to say it was maybe 1990-ish, i was 7 or 8 years old when this happened and can remember it in great detail. we were at the mall (can't remember which one) and when we come out there are 2 guys sitting on the trunk of my mom's car. my dad politely asks them to move, telling them this is our car and we're getting in to leave. they immediately started threatening both my parents, my dad got us in the back seat as quickly as possible and my mom got in the passenger seat, but the 2 men blocked the drivers door and pulled a knife on my dad. my mom started screaming, my dad put his hands up in the air and tried to calm them down, finally they just asked for his wallet, took the cash out and threw the wallet on the ground and ran off. my dad didn't have a CHL but he carried a loaded .38 special under the front seat. i remember driving out of the parking lot, my dad with that gun in his lap incase those 2 guys tried to mess with us again, we were all scared out of our minds. i don't have kids yet, but if something like this were to happen when my wife and i were out, i'd like the comfort of knowing that i have a way to protect the both of us.

a couple months ago my wife was at home sick from work, she called me at work crying saying that a naked man was banging on the front door and telling her to open up. i told her to call the police and i'd call the apartment office, the office got a couple maintenance guys over there right away (carrying hammers and a crow bar nonetheless) and scared the guy off. police got a general description of the guy from my wife and we thought we'd seen the last of him. she told me a couple weeks later she felt like she'd been followed on several occasions, turns out this guy was stalking her. she refused to leave the house without me, and even when we went places together i felt uncomfortable knowing that i had no way of protecting her if this lunatic were to follow us somewhere again. we didn't know who he was or where he lived, we can only assume he staked out the apartment and followed when she left. we finally spotted him one day at the grocery store, called the police (they had an off-duty cop in the store at the time), the officer came over right away and questioned the man. turns out this guy had several arrest warrants, he is in prison now and we've moved from that apartment since. but i'll never forget that sickening feeling of knowing that this guy was following us, just waiting for us to leave or get separated from one another even for a minute, and knowing that i had no real way of protecting her. this is the main reason i'm getting my CHL.
