One problem with DGU stats is they are near impossible to be accurate. For starters, what counts as a DGU? Displaying a firearm (still holstered) as a warning? Drawing? Drawing & aiming? And the list goes on. Second, if you count all of the above, is there a report filed somewhere? When I had my incident at Medical City Dallas, the police came, looked around, but never filed a report. For example, I see news reports 2-3 days a week of defensive gun usage in the Houston-Galveston area. Nationally, I believe the estimates that go as high as 2.5-3.0 million DGU'S per year. The map is just a small percentage of actual cases.
If we want to be able to use DGU stats in our arguments, we need hard figures. And those are going to be impossible to get.
