At first it seemed really awesome, powerful and intimidating but these days, as I've grown more comfortable with carrying, it has become heavy, awkward and sweaty.

I just can't seem to give it up though. I really love the looks on peoples faces when I tell them I carry a 45. It's that look of "whoa...this guy means business...better get him a hot dog off the grill pronto". It makes me feel good inside to know that by limiting the amount of ammo I can load in it I must make sure I make them count. I tried carrying my wifes pocket 9 and it just didn't do it for me. I didn't get the same buzz as I get with a 45. I know its destroying the waist bands of my pants and probably doing damage to my posture but as I look down at my belt right now, there it is. I remember the first time I carried my 45. It was intoxicating and I will never forget the rush. Now I just sigh, slip it into its holster and carry my burden around hoping no one will notice how it weighs me down.

I find myself wanting a full size 1911 now so I can stop hiding my addiction and for my friends and family to accept me for who I am. I see a few cops proudly displaying their 1911's and I think to myself, "now there's a mans gun". I, however, must continue to hide mine, content to know that I am manly man with a 45 even if no one else knows it.

Someday I will regale my grandchildren with tales of how grandpa carried a 45 that was capable of destroying entire city blocks with just the mere mention of the caliber. I will have the bent posture and ruined belts to prove it. Sure I could carry a 9mm or even a 40...but those aren't 45 now are they?

Then I will pull out my Garand and wax ad infinitum about how we used to shoot bullets that could take a moose at each other, like God intended, instead of these puny overpowered 22's....
