How dare you try to bring facts into this "discussion"! Don't you have a heart?!?!? Do it for the children! If it saves only one life.....baldeagle wrote:Ono tweeted "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980." and "31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone."
31,537 x 33 = 1,040,721, so she can't even do math. Worse than that, the murder rate from guns is close to 10,000 now, not 31,000. Almost 20,000 of those 31,000 are suicides. So of her claimed 1,057,000 firearm deaths, about 650,000 of them are suicides.
In 2011, according to the CDC, there were 606 accidental shootings, the least likely cause of accidental death listed. You are four times more likely to die from smoke inhalation, six times more likely to drown, and 54 times more likely to die from accidental poisoning.
When almost 2/3rds of the deaths caused by a gun are suicides, it's the worst kind of hyperbole to claim that we're turning the country into a war zone.
