Re: Free Tommys Gun Packs

Charles L. Cotton wrote:Mine came in today and as others have said, the quality appears to be excellent. I'm stumped as to why there are two buckles, one of which seems to be unnecessary. The buckle on the strong side is not necessary to wear the pack, but appears to be used to deny access to the zipper on the gun portion of the pack. Can anyone with experience with this design shed some light on the second buckle?

Chas.
There are 2 ways to use that buckle.
1. Grab it with the weak hand, unlatch it and pull it open (weak hand). Grab gun with strong hand. Draw.
2. Open the buckle and yank the pouch open strong hand, keeping the weak hand clear (raised above the angle of the barrel) in case of ND while grabbing the gun under duress using the same strong hand.

Method 2 is two motions for the strong hand. I prefer method 1. It's faster for me.
My weak hand is pretty well over the slide and away from the end of the barrel as I take hold of the gun. Although, I do sweep my arm as I draw using method 1.

YMMV

$15. Worth it, and then some.

Skeptical?
More for me.
Which firearm are you stuffing in that small size?
P2000SK

The hammer catches enough of the zipper to interfere with rapidly deploying (size small).
I'm sure the medium will be big enough.

As far as fanny packs go, I don't mind. I may actually get one, but no plans to spend $15 for a "free" one. I can modify a $6 one from Walmart with some leftover elastic and get the same use.
I have a Tommy;s and can tell you with certainty that nothing you find at WalMart will be anywhere near comparable quality or functionality.
My only quibble is that Tommy's are bulky/blocky. Definitely NOT high fashion, but very functional and very sturdy. Made for the task without cutting corners to save cost.
