Former Senator Robert Duncan, now chancellor of Texas Tech, testified "on" the bill, which is like the same thing.Rick Harris wrote:John Sharpe , Chancellor at A&M has gone on record as neither opposing or endorsing Campus Carry. His position all along has been that " he expects students that hold CHLs to continue to use the same good judgement on campus as they do on campus".

Re: SB11 Campus Carry House Floor Debate 5/26/15
I was raised in the Valley, so I know where you're coming from. Had to move back some time ago. However, I do know quite a few guys who eschew the whole "machismo" thing and would gladly carry.koine2002 wrote:I see Canales in his 4th amendment wanted to exclude UT-RGV (a merger between UT-Pan Am and UT-Brownsville). FYI, the mascot is the Vaqueros. I live in Dallas but am from the RGV. I think well less than 1% have even applied for CHLs, and folks, in general, are scared of the idea. The usual response to a suggestion of carrying firearm in public is usually, "Why?" A lot of men have pulled out the machismo (when I suggest getting licensed), "Only wimps carry guns". I always fear being pulled over when I visit as the LEOs, to no fault of their own, aren't well experienced with CHL holders. He put that forward for his base.
As someone raised in the Valley, watching Canales, Rodriguez, Lucio, and Hinojosa dealing with the 2A bills has been very painful.
On a related note, the FBI has opened a corruption investigation into Valley politics and government. As one from there, when it's done, in my opinion, it'll rival what's happened in New Jersey and Illinois in recent years. There's an article about it at http://www.expressnews.com/news/local/a ... 951632.php.
Quite a bit of it, from what I have found, is the disproportionately high number of "Low information voters" here. Thankfully, they are pulling their heads out of the sand.
And, I know the FBI is in Raymondville (where I grew up) right now. Just waiting to see what comes of it. And every time Lucio or Hinojosa come up to speak on 2A issues, I cringe.

It passed. By God, it passed.safety1 wrote:Can anyone explain what happened??? I froze up on the feed right at the big moment.
How did that happen? it was like the Dems just rolled over. What the what???
So, from what I understand after reading the amendments, the schools (excluding medical schools and hospitals) have to designate just certain portions of the campus as "off-limits" and have a 2/3 vote. Have to have the Big Ugly 30.06 signs at the off limits places. Then, on EVEN NUMBERED YEARS, they have to submit a report to a standing committee as to where the off limits places are and WHY they are off limits. I can see the schools trying to ban them from dorms. They'll lose money on that deal, though, because upperclassmen will live off campus if they can.
Sounds like the legislature can tell them what is acceptable and what isn't for off limits places.

Re: SB11 Campus Carry House Floor Debate 5/26/15
I'm curious as to what some of the amendments are.
"Amendment 19: Strike the semi-colon from paragraph 2, line 3, and add a colon"
"Amendment 32: Capitalize "school""
"Amendment 45: Opt out only if you have an 'A', 'E', and/or 'X' in the school name"
