Naw, the art exhibit types for that show would be too busy figuring out how to post a 30.06 sign to keep out we cultural Neanderthals. :evil2:
Or worried about what style to print it. Would an abstract style work? Maybe Cubism? Pop art?

Re: Are you a culture-less barbarian?

I know this isn't a full orchestra, or heavy metal, but one of my favorites with that classical feel to it.

"rlol" :smilelol5:

Oh, dear boy, you must not have heard. Lord and Lady Snottypout are once again absolutely RRRRAAAAAAAVING about both Johnson and Vai.

In fact, this choice was the number one selection in "Pompous Snot Music" magazine this month:

Quite gauche, my boy. MMM...yes.Harumph, harumph.

I prefer Steve Vai with the Metropole Orchestra. I sense a bit more joie d' vivre and je ne sais quoi in that preformance. Plus, I believe the old chap composed it with the help of that Eric Johnson fellow...

MasterOfNone wrote:One important element missing from this whole discussion is whether any particular definition of "cultured" makes one a better person. If we measured culture by knowledge of the arts, does that mean the someone who is more cultured is somehow better than someone who has never studied art? Is someone who can identify an wine by the way sunlight glistens off it better than someone who prefers to drink PBR from the can?
Some of the best people I have ever known would be, by common definitions, considered uncultured. I personally don't care whether people consider me cultured or not, as long as they recognize me as a whole person and not just by this one narrow measure of a person.
I don't think it does. In fact, IMHO, I think considering one's self "cultured", for the most part, makes one a worse person. You get arrogant and haughty, and your inflated sense of self-worth alienates those who would other wise be good friends and colleagues.

I see this here in the Valley. You have people who make more money than they've ever seen before, and they automatically believe they're better than anyone else. There are a few, also, who believe they could hang with the Northeast bluebloods, Chicago old money, and even the Dallas/San Antonio/Austin/Houston nouveau riche. Makes me laugh. I have fun knocking them down a peg or two.

Re: Are you a culture-less barbarian?

Don't you need culture to grow bacteria and mold? :mrgreen:

Seriously, I grew up upper middle class. Not rich, but acted like it. I know which fork one uses to eat salad vs the entree, I love almost all kinds of music (listening to one of Bach's concertos right now), I read voraciously, usually two to three books at one time. I understand Shakespeare. I am a published poet and columnist. My vocabulary sometimes befuddles my English-major wife. I can talk about a wide variety of subjects, and I like impressionism, more Van Gogh than Degas, Monet, or Seurat. And Hieronymus Bosch's paintings intrigue more more than many of the other Rennaisance painters.

I just don't feel a need to bring all of that to the forefront.

That's what I like, not who I am. I know the difference. And these pretentious sycophants to whatever cause celebre happens to be at present just reek of insecurity and banality.

Make me sick.
