It happened back around 1980,I don't even remember what model gun it was.I remember is was a beretta automatic and I was going to decock it so it wouldn't be ready to fire.It was a single action like a revolver.I traded it off long ago.

South Texas is full of them.Plus my closest neighbor,about 200 yds away.We lived i n the country.Every year he went to sweetwater,tx for the annual rattlesnake roundup and brought them home with him.I can swear some of them got away from him even though he denied it.I was always finding them in the yard.

I was shooting snakes one day and as I went to uncock the pistol,I was looking at some more snakes my thumb slipped off the hammer and as I had the trigget pulled back it fired and went into the ground just about 1 inch to the right of my right foot.It sure got my attention and I was very lucky that it didn't hit me and I'm not a newbie,I've been shooting for years.It just goes to show that no matter how experienced you are an AD can happen in a second.Never let up your gaurd. sj
