The price for amount of ammo doesn't seem at all worth it. Plus can it be shot in any .22? It's 45 for a box of 100 vs 15.00 for about 10,000Weg wrote:I say go with a .22 and CB Caps. Re: air rifle in the city
What kind of setup do you have? I just made a heck of a back stop and shot from inside the house out. So the only sound was MAYBE the sound of wood getting a small quick pop.AJMag wrote:I'd love to teach my nephew to shoot using a bb gun but I'm afraid of our neighbors and their despise for my way of life. Thread jacking my own thread. I am completely immersed in the world that is airsoft now. I had no clue the extent that people have gone to produce the things I am finding available. I have recently learned of a replica glock blow back 6mm bb pistol. 168.00 though! I have full intentions of getting one to "dry fire" That seems like quite a bit of money to me but then I looked at ammo and gas and it really isn't. I have looked at CO2 operated ones as well. I was initially turned off of the idea when I was watching the trigger pull on a lot of them. Till I found the more expensive ones essentially are the same gun just different ammo. Diagonally my two car garage is ideal for shooting practices. Anyone gone this route yet?

Re: air rifle in the city
SO I decided to test my luck. We live in a cookie cutter fox and jacobs rental house at the moment. The front door is in a straight line with the back door which when opens leads straight to a small hill. On the top of that hill is a large well built thick wooden fence. With 5 -1 x6s and one gian OSPF board I think my back stop against the fence at a measured 60 ft was adequate. I remounted a friends scope for his "match grade" pellet rifle and had no issues with a cross over or over penetration.
I hunkered down directly behind the front door using my ever so pointless hallway decoration table, a yoga mat, and 4 2x4s to create the ultimate shooting bench. Wife was unhappy at my setup and had no issue letting me no.
However, in less than an hour she went from dis testing my setup, to shooting a few, to now wanting an air rifle as well as a pistol.
This was actually a really good learning experience for me because the MOA adjustments were 1/100 as on most rifles. However I have never tried to sight in anything with wanting pin point accuracy to not exccede 30-40 yards. Had I done my research first I would have none to make bigger adjustments as opposed to a few clicks at a time. For those who don't know what I am referring to. I essentially discovered after the fact I had to double almost triple my adjustments at close range versus at 100 yards making 4 clicks to move an inch.
So now the hunt has began for a pistol to plink with in the backyard while grilling. Although I don't agree with illegal taking of any game animal, the abundance of dove in my area is like dangling crack infront of a recovering addict. When I am suffering from a near heat stroke come dove season with seeing only 2 birds for weeks out on my brother in laws land, it tends to make me think otherwise when I arrive home.

Re: air rifle in the city
that is interesting. Does it state in the laws what is stated to be a target range?daniel2002p wrote:Looks like Irving, TX does not explicitly state you cannot do it on your land.
So does this mean yes one can shoot BBs in back yard or heck to the no?Sec. 24-16.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any air gun
from or across any street, sidewalk, alley or public land, or any
public place, except on a properly constructed target range.
(Ord. No. 225, § 4)
State law reference(s)--Discharging air guns, Penal Code, art.
480.

Re: air rifle in the city
Clearly I wasn't looking hard enough. It makes sense though 1300fps could really do some damage IMO. For half the price of some of the pellet guns I saw, other then ammo prices, why not just do a .22? Sometimes I see a used marlin 60 for about 80 bucks at pawn shops.

air rifle in the city
I was walking around Cabela's earlier and for whatever reason wanted to see what was going on in the airsoft/pellet gun world. One was labeled to travel above 1300fps!! Clearly things have changed in that relm since I owned one. I was looking around and from I could tell as along as it doesnt carry over they are legal in city limits I.E backyards with a decent backstop and fences? Comments? To bad dove is illegal to take with one because I swear the fattest juicest looking dove ONLY live in places they can't be shot at.
