Re: Oct 2010 applications

Fastest CHL I ever received was less than a week in Topsham, Maine in 1985. Went in and filled out a half page app at the Sheriffs Office and gave them $25 bucks, no prints or pictures, no class, no shooting, and they mailed me my paper license a couple of days later. My last Va CHL was just as easy but it cost $50 bucks and took almost a month. My TN CHL took a couple of months and cost right at $150 bucks. Texas by far has one of the better programs as far as I'm concerned, especially the classroom portion of it, and for the license to come in just over a month after applying is pretty good in my book and I won't even mention the fee for the military guys but I will say thank you to Texas for supporting the military the way they do. Happy Veterans Day.

By the way, the ritual Wally Walk went off without a hitch although I had to settle for a Subway sub since there were no nachos! :cheers2:

Re: Oct 2010 applications

I've had CHL's in three other states (Me, Tn, Va (still have)) and never heard of the Wally Walk until I got here so it must be a Tx rites of passage thing, so just to keep with tradition I'll head out to Wally world (only about two minutes from here) with Tx plastic in my wallet and do some shopping. One great thing about shopping at wally world, you can buy food, beer, and ammo in one stop! Later yall. :cheers2:

Re: Oct 2010 applications

Well, just as I had suspected earlier, "Mailed" really doesn't mean mailed, it means that the envelope was sent to the mailroom for further handling; my status went to mailed on the 5th and the postmark on the envelope was the 8th! However it really doesn't matter now because I finally have my plastic in hand! :woohoo :woohoo :rolll :rolll :thewave :thewave

HarleyDave and IYAOYAS, hopefully you should be seeing your stuff Friday since Thursday is a holiday for us government employees. It has been great chatting the last week or so but now I must bid the "Waiting Room" farewell, hope to see you all active in the forum.

Happy Veterans Day all.

Here's some funny reading for you while you wait, brought to us from our Beltway friends outside of DC. Remember, keep the yogurt in the car!

Re: Oct 2010 applications

WooHoo, guess what came in the mail today! You got it, nothing but junk mail again. I'm now inclined to think "mailed" actually means sent to the mailroom for delivery and not actually "Mailed." It's a cruel joke being played on us by the DPS, some kid is down there laughing right now knowing we are hawking the mailbox. Oh well, what's another day.:

Re: Oct 2010 applications

After almost a week at "Manufacturing Pending" and four days at "Manufacturing" my status finally went to "Mailed" this morning! Right at a month from taking the class and mailing in the application, not bad at all. :thewave

Re: Oct 2010 applications

Found this forum today while surfing the net and then discovered the fact that you can check your application status online, got to love modern technology. I took the CHL class in Fort Worth (On-target, taught by Todd) on Oct 6th, mailed my application on the 8th with a receipt confirmation of the 9th, and checked my status today (Nov 2nd) to find everything completed (checked in green :clapping: ) and the license status as "manufacturing," ought to be getting my plastic pretty soon. I carried in Virginia for over 7 years before moving to Texas so it'll be good to be legal to carry here as a resident.

I carry a Springield XD40 in a Galco OWB holster (rides high and canted forward) with two spare magazines in a Galco holder as well as a Baretta Jetfire in my pocket when I'm in street clothes. Both conceal easily with a loose t-shirt and even more so in a leather vest or jacket; never had anyone say they could tell I was carrying a weapon. If I'm in running or biking shorts I carry in a camelback, nothing beats hydration and protection in one pack!
