Re: Extra Magazine Carry

I am comfortable carrying the 11 rounds in the single mag. Personally I can't envision needing more, and don't recall seeing any original or anecdotal stories of a private citizen involved in an extended gunfight. I expect I'm gonna stop the bad guy or they're gonna get me by the time I get 3-5 roun...

Re: To chamber or not to chamber

Along the same line, my weapon is hammerless, and has a thumb safety and a decocker. I am firmly settled on a round in the chamber. The options I am considering remain: 1. Cocked, Safety on. (single action) 2. Decocked, Safety off, double action (there is a trigger safety & firing pin block) 3. ...

Re: November 2010 Applications

I know it is hard to resist checking the DPS website for information, but they don't seem concerned with updating the website. I have had my plastic for 8 days and the DPS site still says they are waiting for the materials. :headscratch

Re: Anyone carry blanks?

We were told by our sargent to fire at least three rounds and then shout Dừng lại three times.

It worked more often than not.

Re: To chamber or not to chamber

Folks, I request that you lighten up a bit. (I can't believe I just said that! :evil2: ) I applaud the OP for asking the question. It shows serious (and appropriate) thought and concern. :tiphat: I'm not sure the "search" thing applies here. The tenor of this particular discussion seems t...

Re: November 2010 Applications

Got mine yesterday, the DPS website seems to have made an error, it says waiting for submission. :woohoo

Somehow I prefer that they spend their time getting the plastic in the mail instead of keeping the website up to date.

28 days from mailing to Plastic in my wallet :cheers2:

Re: November 2010 Applications

For all those waiting, I just received my plastic in the mail today after 21 days. I checked earlier in the day and my status was the same as it has been for the last 21 days - just the paragraph about DPS waiting to receive all my items. I did the online application, electronic fingerprints, took ...

Re: November 2010 Applications

what's the procedure for the DPS updating their website/status information? Does it update in real-time or end of the day or overnight? In other words, if you check it at noon is there any sense in checking again until the next day because their site doesn't update as things are finshing up? 1. You...

Re: November 2010 Applications

I've been looking over this and it seems that I should expect an update of some sort online in a few days. I had submitted the online application and went to L1 before I took my class on Nov 6. My envelope was signed for in Austin last Wednesday 11/10 and I guess I should add 2 days to allow for the...

Re: Gun Show This Weekend & Holster considerations

Sounds like a plan.

I've been thinking about either a Fobus paddle style or modifying a backpack so that it can be easily drawn.

I usually carry a backpack slung over one shoulder. That would put the gun in about the same position as if I were wearing a shoulder holster.

Gun Show This Weekend

I'm looking for a concealed carry holster for my Taurus and wondering if it's worth the time and 10 or 11 bucks it will cost to go to the Brown Convention Center and get in.

Re: which Snap Caps for newbie guy

I have the tipton but I prefer these for general training rounds. http://www.stactionpro.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They are metal cased and do have a little weight to them. They are fairly durable and I paid something like $32 for 50 of them. That's a much better...

which Snap Caps for newbie guy

I've been looking to get some snap caps, and have found only 2 choices and they are markedly different. One is by Battenfeld Tipton that uses a spring thing inside and the other is by A-Zoom and seems to be solid aluminum. I have no clue, except that I am blown away at the $2 + cost per each. :heads...
