Well we closed down the skeet range like it was last call today. I had a great time shooting all day, and yes, missing most of my clays. Big thanks to Hoi for arranging a great event, and to Andy for taking particular patience to be sure we all knew what to do on the skeet range.
My son Shayne had a particularly good day learning a lot and trying a number of potential first guns. I think he took a fancy to the 3" Kimber 1911s he tried.
It was great meeting everyone and look forward to the next event.
Cheers! :cheers2

Re: Let's Party! DFW Get-Together May 14th (Taking headcount
I spoke with my son today and he's interested in Andy's offer for some skeet shooting learning. He'll be out there as a future CHL holder, and figured why not hang out for some shotgun lessons while he's at it, if the offer is still open. Is there anyone else going to hang out for sheet lessons after lunch?

srothstein wrote:I am not familiar with the area or restaurant, so I could be way off. There is no "Texas Bar and Grill" licensed in Dallas or Tarrant Counties. When I did a Google search to find the restaurant, then a TABC search for the address, I found a "Cellar Restaurant & Bar" and a "Cipriani Cafe" with the same address (220 E. Las Colinas, Irving). I can tell you nothing about the cafe since they only have the MB to serve drinks, with no subordinates. The Cellar has an FB subordinate, so it cannot be 51%.Hoi Polloi wrote:I tried to look up the place and couldn't find much. From what I did find, it seems like a likely possibility that the establishment could be 51% posted. I don't know how to look up TABC licenses. Will someone please do that?Excaliber wrote:Hoi Polloi wrote:I vote for the Texas Bar & Grill.
But I cannot be sure that these are the right place. If the Cellar is actually the right place, TABC may get upset with them for operating under a different business name. But I did find one notation in the Google search that noted that the Texas Bar and Grill had closed, so this may just be the new name and everything is correct.
Hope that helps a little, and maybe someone who knows the area can do a better search.
OK folks, I can give you the backstory on the venue. I decided to go have lunch there today since I hadn't been there in awhile. I wanted to be sure there were no 30.06s and 51% issues to avoid. As I pull up Las Colinas Blvd, I first thing I see is that the sign has been changed. My familiar "Texas Bar and Grill" has been changed to "The Cellar". For you fans of the venue, yes, its a sad passing.
The place has completely changed looks. Gone are the rusic barnboard walls and beer-stained wooden floors. Its now a more contemporary and modern look. Its still an open restaurant with the outdoor patio seating next to the canal. The menu is burgers, sammys, wraps, and salads. Ironically enough, the pool table is still in the back. It appears they are set up with a small stage for happy hour bands I assume.
I spoke with the owner and he gave me some background. Apparently TB&G closed last summer, and he went through extensive renovation. He told me stories about removing the walls and floors. (The walls are now adorning some new bar in Rockwall) The Cellar opened on Superbowl weekend in February. I let him know we are considering his place for lunch, and he offered to set up a drink special for us, rope off a section of restaurant, set up a menu discount, etc. if we give him some advance notice. (BTW, I do have his card and menu if you're interested) He seemed like an owner who is interested in attracting this group to his place, and is willing to set up whatever we wanted to gain our business.
The venue is not too much further from Elm Fork than Micardo Juarez - its just in the opposite direcition towards highway 114.
On a personal note, I've been going to the old TB&G for the last 20 years since moving to Dallas. The place has always been known for getting an ice cold beer and a good sandwich whenever I worked in or stopped thru Las Colinas. I've spend many Friday happy hours unwinding from work, loosening the tie (when we wore them), and contributing to the stained floor I'm sure. For the Western boot wearing crowd - you would have fit right in and feel right at home. I am sorry to see its passing.

I was planning to bring lots of extra standard ammo like 9, 38, 45, but if someone has a FN five-seven or somesuch, absolutely I'd chip in to cover the costs. This hobby can get pricey.Hoi Polloi wrote:Mercado Juarez now has a competitor!Griffen wrote:Mecardo Juarez is a good restaraunt and close by, but I'd also like to suggest another possible venue for consideration. The Texas Bar and Grill is located on Las Colinas Blvd, just off Hwy 114, and has an outdoor seating area along the banks of the mighty Las Colinas canal. (Yes, there is similarity to San Antonio riverwalk) Its got a decent lunch menu - as we used to go there fairly often when I used to work along the canal a couple of years ago. I offer that for those that may choose an alternate to Mexican food. I don't believe they are 30.06 posted as I recall. Thanks.![]()
What do the rest of ya think?
While I'm asking your opinion: What do you think of the idea that I bring some solo cups and we can make donations to members whose bullets we use? They can just be placed at each lane. We can all bring some quarters and dollars. I believe most bullets work out to be about 10 cents to a $1 a piece (most being in the 25-60c range), depending on if they were reloaded or new, brand, quality, caliber, etc. Some people were very generous last year and let many try their rarer guns and I'm thinking it would be nice to have a way to take responsibility for some of the costs we incur, especially since we're setting aside specific time to help others this range day.

Thanks Hoi...
I'll be there and bringing my stepson. He's interested in getting his CHL, and has been trying out different firearms as he decides what his first purchase will be.
