Re: I deal with this every day...

at one point during the forum, the host asked the panel if they would reconsider their position on campus carry should statistics prove contrary to their beliefs. Of course the "pro gun" side, being the humble guys that they are, agreed that they would reconsider their opinion and look at other options, while one female on the panel (anti 2A obviously) immediately refused, and basically stated that guns are always bad and should never ever be anywhere around her at any time, regardless of what reality is. I see this also every day, our side will attempt to converse with free thoughts, present valid arguments in a calm collected manner, while the other side whines like a baby and refuses to listen to anything other than liberal indoctrination.
This is why we'll never get past the issue of folks wanting to ban guns. Those calling for a ban do not seek compromise -- they simply want to take one more incremental step toward banning them. They call for everyone to discuss and compromise, but they are neither willing to listen to facts and figure nor actually engage in compromise because they don't (and wouldn't if they did) have anything to give up in the give-and-take of true compromise.

Incrementalism is the name of their game and it is always played thus. Ask/call for more than is possible/likely -- Call for compromise when met with resistance -- agree to accept less than initially asked for without giving anything up in return -- start the process all over again. They are not acting in good faith and those of them with any real sense at all know it, but to them the ends justifies any means.
