Re: Fifth Amendment a "firewall"

The left just has their head in the sand and thinks that if they protest enough about why they can't strip us of more rights, the law of the land will go away.
The tactics of the those on the Left (and I don't agree that their heads are in the sand) are to promote popular opinion, actual democracy, as sacrosanct. Per the Left, popular opinion should reign above all God-given and Constitutionally-protected individual rights, and above any balancing of powers in the three branches of Federal government. That is why they took over public education and the old media and why they have embraced social media so readily -- to drive opinion further left. The call from Acolyte Jarrett is just another example.

This is one of the reasons the Seventeenth Amendment is damaging to individual liberty. It established the popular election of US Senators by the people of their state. Prior to this Amendment, US Senators were elected by state legislatures to be representatives of the state itself, thereby being a voice for the rights of the various States and their differing interests, and, by extension, the interests of the people living in them. Now, Senators are beholden to an electorate and the deep pockets of investors, many of whom are the ones that want to drive public opinion Left.
