"Rebuilding" Iraq proved neither cheap nor easy, and was ineffective.
Promoting democracy in Eqypt hasn't raised their opinion of us.
Why should we believe that results in Syria would be any different? I can't fathom a National Security interest we have in Syria, and I am not aware of a strategic imperative to our intervention there. Why do we as a nation think that our will should trump the will of another sovereign nation on their soil and citizens? The world never asked the US to become the worldwide police force. We have problems enough to address domestically in the face of trillion dollar plus annual deficit spending.
