Kudos to this young lady who wrote a very well reasoned article. I am a bit surprised that it was even published in the Stanford Review.

Guns are very much like snakes and spiders in that a very significant portion of the population these days have a visceral response to them -- either good or bad. While well-reasoned arguments can ultimately win some people over, too many simply hear "blah-blah-blah" and go on with their irrational fears of things they have little or no experience with.

Getting around visceral loathing of an inanimate object is not an easy thing. It is often a slow process using a variety of tools -- reasoned arguments, emotional arguments, and hands-on experience. It's too bad for most of us that we can't get to the range until that last part with some folks, but the time and effort are often well-spent.
