I don't think you can say that with certainty. I'm not defending his reactions - certainly not his use of crude references in the last post. But he could easily simply be a hot-head who let the escalation in the other post get the better of him.

If our forum had responded more rationally in the beginning, then we could say with certainty that he was/is a troll.

-just sayin

Thanks for that. Perspective is all I'm asking for here. From my angle I got my butt jumped for asking a question. Now I fully admit I played my part once things got bad but I didn't set out to have this turn into an epic drama fest.

Although, I don't know how Excliber's postings could be seen as anything but calm and reasonable. :headscratch
It's called being passive-aggressive. It's a favorite tactic of mine as well. He knew quite well what he and others were doing.
I know how it goes, I'm an old-timer on a couple of forums and when things get slow it's fun to pick fights. I guess I had it coming.

Not a troll, but whatever....Makes me wonder how many people have signed up for this site, disagreed with someone and was then flamed and written off as a troll. Probably several.

Agreed, and some of them were mine but he's a drinking/wrenching-on-engines buddy so I can do that.
In all honestly we're all glad he's alive. Home invasions don't ususally end well and that was a big wake up call to all of us suburbians thinking we live in safety.

Re: Why I own guns.

I found NOTHING in the news and I can't really dedicate more time to this. Heres the thread my buddy posted in a local car forum. I believe the pics are in there somewhere on that site too. If not, and I get bored I may upload them.

Since this event he's installed a peephole and bought a Mossber 'persuader' IIRC.

Re: Why I own guns.

I had originially posted this under "never again" but I guess that wasn't the appropriate place.

Anyway, people that think I'd lie to make friends on the internet (huge lol considering how this went down)...sorry I'm not going to commit time and effort to validate myself to you. Either believe it or not, IDC...but please don't insult me by assuming that I'd make up lame stories like these. Trust me I could do much better if that's what I was going for; I'm sure I could work a ninja or pirate in there at least.

Generally a person would like to make themselves appear smarter, stronger or otherwise better by lying. I don't see how any of my anecdotes would accomplish that.

austinrealtor wrote: As for this second story, sounds interesting. Care to link to a news article about it? Not saying your lying or anything. I'd just really like to know how the local media covered a home invasion story where two thugs with ASSAULT WEAPONS shot the homeowner, then a neighbor with an "assault weapon" came to his defense.
A cursory google news search has yielded nothing but your welcome to look on your own. I don't remember a story at the time but I could be wrong. This happened around late sep or early october and the homeowner's first name is Robert. I have pics of the scene and his hand post-surgery on a thumb drive at home.

See guys, perspective is everything. From your perspective some new guy comes in with some differing opinions and gets flack for it, he responds in kind and then it becomes a flame fest. I came here looking to join a community and learn, and within the first few responses people are essentially calling me a liar and insisting that I must be the aggressor. Did I lose my tember and get a little snarky myself? Yes, but that's kind of my MO when I feel I'm being unjustly judged, and anyone judging me on what amounts to a few kilobytes of data on an internet forum will never have the full picture. Take a hard look at how some of you people have responded to me and try to see why I got a little irritated.

This was in Mansfield, at a subdiv near the end of 360.

Yeah, you can't really make this stuff up...and I'm sure that some of the LEO's here could either find records of it all or may have even been there.

Anyway, as far as this story there isn't much more to tell. I quit that job a few months later and never saw him again, but a former employee I still talk to sees him on the train from time to time. He's never threatened him but he feels that we all did him wrong by not firing the girl that rebuffed him and denys the vandalism and threats. He thinks she led him on and embarrased him on purpose. That guy is one of the craziest people I've encountered to date.

2nd reason I own weapons is because in 2008 I got an early morning phone call regarding a friend who had been shot while defending his house from a home invasion. He took a 7.62 round from an SKS in the palm of his hand while trying to hold his front door shut. He lived in a nicer and relatively new neighborhood in the mid-cites and was awoken at 2am by 2 thugs, both with assault rifles, one wearing shoulder pads. They tried to smash the door in but he held strong. One managed to squeeze halfway in and my friend grabbed the barrel of the gun to force it away from him, that's when it went off. Lucky for my friend the thugs fled after the shot and his neighbor and best friend was out front a few minutes later with his AR but the thugs never got caught. It's pretty weird seeing pics of your friends new house splattered with blood, a place I've drank many a beer at and figured was safe.

Why I own guns.

I'm not going to go into my entire history but there are 2 major incidents that made me decide to own a firearm for self defence.

First off, I've been a manager for about 10 years. I ran restaurants for 5 and print shops for the same. I've hired hundreds and done a fair amount of firing as well. Some of the jobs I've worked at had convicted killers, ex-cons and future cons on the payroll but most of my experiences were good despite the rough nature of some of these guys. I had grown up in a pretty rough place and was surrounded by people like that and I never really felt concerned for my safety until 2007.

In 07 I was working in downtown Dallas for a reprographic printing company, after a production employee gave notice I needed to find a replacement so we began interviewing applicants. One of the guys was a really rough looking vato who had done time, but he was honest and up front about it and also had great experience in the industry. Turns out he had worked for a competitor and even had a good reference!
Well 'we' hired him (I still defer to the owner on that one) and for several weeks things are fine. The guy shows up on time and is decent worker which is as good as we can ask for @ $8/hr. Then things started getting scary/weird, we'd catch him talking to himself as if he was in an argument, he told us about some girlfriend who turned out he was stalking and then there was the cutting...dude liked to cave words into his arm. So little by little this guy started going nuts on us but there wasn't a real reason to fire him and to be honest we were all a little scared to. Then one day it got bad... Long story short he had some crush on one of our sales girls, bought her flowers and she blew him off. That was what set him off. He went outside and slashed her tires and carved words into every panel on her car, then he almost severs his finger off and then calmly tries to go back to work, bleeding profusely all over the office. He actled like nothing happened.
Now I can't tell you everything that happend because I wasn't there but I was off site and got a call from my employes who told me not to come back without the cops.
Super long story, even shorter!
After a showdown in the office I manage to get the guy to let everyone go but then fled right before the cops come. Cops search bldg, take statements etc. They never found the guy that night.
Death threat phone calls start coming in not too much later to the shop and the girl. She's a mess at this point as is her boyfriend. We're not that mutch better.

Things cool down for a couple of days. The cops send detectives for affadavits and we have DPD offduty at the shop the rest of the week.
That weekend, one of our less than reputable delivery drivers apparently/alledgedly calls in some friends from south Dallas to take care of the guy (pure genius). Apparently they pull some drive by on the halfway house the ex-con stays at and then guess what. Vato loco calls ME asking if I shot his house up! Turns out he grabbed the company address book and has all of our addresses and phone #s!

I do my best to calm him and convince him I'm his friend, to turn himseLf in, etc. Then as soon as I got off the phone I drove to a pawn shop and bought a 12 ga. .

We later find out the guy is connected with the Texas Syndicate thru a cousin so things got even more interesting because he claimed we all had death sentences. I wish I could tell the whole story but this played out over months so the cliff notes are
JC Hires ex-con with some screws loose.
Ex-con goes crazy
JC buys guns

Like I said there are 2 major things that let me to the path for a CHL, I'll tell the other when I have more time.
