Re: Basic .308 reloads
I have a Dillon 550RL dedicated to .308 since I shoot that caliber a lot. One thing to consider in reloading .308 is whether you will use military brass. That's all I use so I know it's 1X fired. Here's my routine which might affect what press you want: 1. Deprime on Rockchucker with RCBS Heavy Duty...

Re: Craziest thing I have ever seen
Seriously, that's why I NEVER buy brass that's been polished by the seller. Dirty brass allows you to see the real condition of the brass, but you can clean up the worst looking brass and make it look like new with steel pins and you'll never know you have a problem until it separates.

Re: The inevitable happened today!
Here's my experience. I have a heavy foot (I know, I know) and have been stopped three times by Texas DPS in different counties. Each time I have handed them my DL with CHL on top of the DL. Each time the officer has been extremely courteous, looked at the CHL, and handed it back. I remember each on...

Re: Cleaning live ammo in a tumbler
I know this is kinda an old thread but I finally found an article originally posted on AR15.com I have been looking for that discusses what happens to powder when tumbling live ammo. I thought it was worth reposting here for anyone interested to read. The article is a little long, but it takes a ver...

Re: Firearms as Gifts
On the 4473, the very first item in the checkoff section 11 asks a. Are you the actual transferee/buyer of the firearm(s) listed on this form ? Warning: You are not the actual buyer if you are acquiring the firearm(s) on behalf of another person. If you are not the actual buyer, the dealer cannot tr...

Re: Powder for 5.56 that meters well
Re Munson's post, Pat's said to use H335 data as starting data. I did this, and worked up a ladder test series of charges as I always do with new powders. In my M16A1 rifle with 55 gr FMJBT, I use 25.0 gr of WC844 and obtain a chronoed velocity of 3050 fps. Remember this is bulk grade powder not can...

Re: Powder for 5.56 that meters well
H335 is one of the best powders for 5.56 ever developed. It's a dream to measure. This evening I was loading some 5.56 on a Dillon 550 and about every 100 rounds I'll drop 4 measures into a cup and weigh, just to be sure the measure is correct. I'm loading 25.0 gr of H335, and if I remember correctl...

Re: USAA and 30.06
Same here. I have my auto insurance still with USAA but I moved all my investments and homeowners insurance to other companies. I got the best quote on HO insurance thru Farmers but even they couldn't beat USAA for auto. I've been insured with them for going on 29 years now. Anyone tried Germania fo...

Re: Gun Show for Powder and Primers?
Yep, the secret to low prices is to order in bulk. The more you buy, the cheaper it gets. At the Houston show this weekend I saw Remington primers for $35 a box. I can order online for $15 and change. If I buy 5,000 primers (I usually buy 20,000 or more) at $15.50 from Powder Valley ($77.50) and add...

Re: Universal decapping die
I use a Universal decapping die, then size & trim with the trimmer mounted in a Rockchucker, then prime in an RCBS Autoprime mounted on the table, and finally charge, seat, and crimp on the Dillon. That's a few extra steps but I can assure myself of a properly seated primer that way and it gives...

Re: 5.56/.223 reloading
Charles has the prices down where I am, except I use an even less expensive powder. WC844 surplus is what the military uses and this is salvaged from ammo that was demilled. This is a little trickier than 748 because it's bulk grade not cannister so you have to work up your own load data but it's es...

Re: How difficult is it to reload .223/5.56 anyway?
Use a ball powder such as H335 and you'll never have a problem. Just thought I'd mention sources of brass if anyone needs it. I just bought another 10K of 5.56 LC brass over on AR15.com for 42.00 per K shipped. Not a bad price. I can't see paying more than 50 per K ever. There's just too many guys s...

Re: Dillon 550 problems.
Given some of the brass I've seen lately probably an off-center priming hole. Seems the manufacturers are getting sloppy. BTW I have several Dillons that get a LOT of use and yes sometimes parts do wear out/break. After all, they're mechanical. HOWEVER, after a fast call to Dillpon they have always ...

The hazmat fee covers the cost of extra training for the transportation company employees, ALL the paperwork and documentation, and the extra insurance they have to carry when they transport explosives. Plus, there are certain classes of goods that can't be transported on trucks containing explosive...
