It's the bit about it being "ordered" that bothers me. If this were just for if there's another LA bank shootout or something then I'd merely think it's way overkill, but Holder saying that Obama can "order" it makes it sound like he's talking about "solving the problem" of Glen Beck getting uppity with his anti-tolerance hate-speech. In some ways I find it more chilling than that invasion scene from the Red Dawn trailer.MadMonkey wrote:Worrying? Yes... but I honestly can't say I'm surprised. An airliner headed toward the White House could already be shot down by a military aircraft in an extreme situation.
As far as I know, though, we don't yet have air-to-air combat capable UAVs. Which would mean that Holder is talking about strikes on the ground, with the potential for collateral damage (which we already do in Pakistan on a fairly regular basis).
It wouldn't take much. People like us are already considered potential terrorists, and one tinfoil hatted kook shooting up a public place could push a lot of people over the edge.
A government that can kill without putting themselves at risk is going to be incredibly dangerous after they do it once. After that, it becomes much easier to order that launch.
