I thought shellfish wasn't halal, just as its not kosher.

If I'm not mistaken shellfish actually falls into a class of food items called "makru". These are questionable to consume and the individual should be in "dire straights" to consume the item.

Not too shabby! I've "made" sushi a few times myself. Are you using a single edge knife? Anyone got a source for good fish? The best fish I've found in the area is unfortunately accompanied by the biggest jerk in the area as well.
