I agree. Get a passport. It's well worth it and settles pretty much all ID and residency requirements in dealing with the government. Just a few months ago, I looked at my naturalization certificate for the first time since 1985 when I got it. I suggest getting a US Passport Card. It's only $55 for 10 years ($30 to renew) and proves you're a US citizen. Even if you never take a road trip to Mexico or a Caribbean cruise, it's not a bad idea to have wallet-size proof of US citizenship these days. It's also convenient single document to prove identity and employment authorization for an I-9 form or any other purpose.
