Viewed through the lens of my belief that the so-called "War on Drugs" has been a colossal failure that has also been used to justify destroying many civil liberties, I'd also like to point out that major quantities of drugs cannot be destroyed while knocking, only minor quantities can be flushed in that period of time.

So consider this. An officer goes up and knocks on the door. Minor quantities of drugs are flushed. Problem solved! :tiphat: Repeat every few days if you want.

I agree with you. A no knock warrant at the wrong address is pretty much a no-win, nightmare scenario for an Armed Citizen, law-abiding, homeowner.

Re: Killeen TX: Multiple officers shot serving no knock warr

One officer I know at relatively small town (population 25,000) had a clever scenario. On one search warrant, he had the utilities department call and tell perpetrator he was $15 past due on a water bill and needed to pay it in person that day or his water would be turned off. He left, was detained at the office, and the police executed the search warrant while he was being interviewed. :thumbs2:

Killeen TX: Multiple officers shot serving no knock warrant

I do not know whether the guy was innocent or guilty of drug trafficking, but I do see a real downside to the use of no-knock warrants.

May the fallen officer rest in peace, and no disrespect is intended towards him, but I really wish he hadn't become another example of the problems created by no-knock warrants.

On Friday May 9, 2014, just after 5:30am, members of the Killeen Police Department Tactical Response Unit and the Bell Organized Crime Unit were attempting to serve a narcotics search warrant. The TRU was beginning to breach the window when the 49 year old male inside, opened fire striking four officers.
Multiple officers were hit. Detective Charles Dinwiddie later died from his injuries.
Documents Detail Crime Scene Search After Killeen Officers Shot
A “no knock” warrant, authorizing the officers to enter the apartment without providing prior notification to the residents, was issued on May 8 after an investigation that started in March in response to a tip from an informant ... “The informant has reported that Guy is frequently armed with a handgun...affiant (asks) that this warrant be issued authorizing a ‘No Knock’ entry for the suspected place,” the affidavit said.
An inventory of evidence collected over the course of about 12 hours as the crime scene was processed through the afternoon on May 9 and into the early morning hours on May 10 lists dozens of shell casings, projectiles, projectile fragments among more than 150 items gathered and documented.

Investigators also seized a glass pipe identified as drug paraphernalia, a safe, a grinder, a laptop computer, two walkie-talkies, a 9-mm pistol, and three cellphones from inside the apartment.

The evidence return does not list any drugs.
On a different note, thank God for protective gear:
Four officers were hit by bullets, but two were protected by safety equipment. The other two were taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and were then transferred to Scott & White.
