That right there is the main reason that over 50% of all burglaries in Little Britain take place while the homeowners are at home (aka "hot burglary" or "home invasion").

Whereas less than 5% of US burglaries take place when the residents are home. A healthy fear of getting shot is a nice deterrent. This incident is a nice example of that healthy fear.
