It's my understanding that if you are on your own property, and believe you or a family member is threatened by a stray dog on your property, that you are within the law to kill the animal by whatever means is neccessary. The key words would be "I felt threatened". With a dead pit bull at your feet, there should be no doubt of the threat.
Sure, it's illegal to discharge firearms in city limits, but we all know that if there is a threat to your life or safety by a 2-legged animal, you have the right to shoot it. A 4-legged animal should be no different.
