As another election is heating up and after that video by Ayoob I'm starting to consider this a bit more seriously than last go around. I have questions for those that have body armor. I'm also considering the number of just plain random shootings on the highways and byways in addition to the collision/impact protection.

1. How often do you where it?
2. Do you have soft that you wear often and then add plates under certain circumstances like when goin to the range?
3. Are you over 50y?
4. Is it just for personal use or part of your job?
It's tougher to wear in hot weather. On the range or most especially during force-on-force training wearing body armor is a good idea. Concealable is preferred. I have plates for home defense and train with the plates on occasion.

I'm not 50 yet, but I'd say wearing armor outdoors in the Texas summer is still a pretty good way to reach heat exhaustion quickly.

That's seems like a hella good price....
Why was I expecting ceramic to be lighter? ... Some quick checking says I had a bad assumption.
The video demonstrates the ability to take multiple hits as well. They are thicker, but way lighter than Level III steel plates.

Chest rig is pieced from all over SOE, Tyr, Esstac. If I decided to buy another set I'm going for the poly plates that weight less. I've done training classes and shooting competitions in full kit and I need to exercise more.
There was a day not all that long ago I would do ruck for miles in a weighted pack (for time) and do pull-ups and pushups in a 30lb weightvest. You have to build up to it, but its worth it if you do.

Re: Anybody bought body armor? Thinking about it....

We live in Texas and Body armor is hot.

Having concealable armor is an asset. I'm in shape and its challenging to wear outdoors in August in Texas.

Plates/Helmet are also assets as we are facing serious rioting.

Paul Howe has some worthwhile thoughts here: Training for the real fight
EQUIPMENT
As an assaulter, my body weight was around 230 pounds, but when tactically loaded
with weapon, vest and helmet, it was closer to 310. This was simple assault gear and
not a rucksack.

Fast moving raids require you to move efficiently and swiftly in, around or over
obstacles with all your equipment. I have witnessed individuals packing their vest
with excess ammunition or equipment that was a mental comfort item and not
mission essential. This caused them problems in movement and fatigue.

Physically, you need to be able to move through an obstacle course with all your
equipment to ensure that you can fight with your “combat weight.”
Also, you
quickly find what stays on and what falls off. Make changes as necessary. If
strength and endurance is an issue, get in shape. Hit the pavement, get in a gym or
better yet, do both. If when looking in a mirror, you see yourself wearing
overlapping gun belts, do something about it.
A helmet in particular changes your cheek weld and makes shooting a rifle accurately more difficult. Spend a day shooting a rifle prone with a helmet on and you will know. For irons in particular you must zero with your helmet on. It's important to train with your equipment.
