The M1 carbine is one of, if not the most, fun guns I have. I love it!

It also makes a fantastic self defense gun with Soft Point ammunition. Jim Cirillo indicated that the proper Soft Point ammo made the .30 Carbine cartridge as effective as a 12 gauge slug, based on both ballistic tests and actual gunfight usage.

The paratrooper model had a particularly bad reputation for combat use in WW2. Geneva conventions require FMJ ammo. General Gavin's and others had their carbine fail completely after parachuting into combat. The M1 carbine has been a poor performer for military use since the 1940s.
