With what we know about the Terror Factory wanting to "keep fear alive" I believe the FBI's roll in all this deserves the closest scrutiny possible. The families and survivors have already settled claims with the FBI — whose agents failed to investigate a warning about Cruz — and the Broward school district for a combined $153 million.

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida
What Scot Peterson did was so much worse than cowardice... he prevented other LEO's from doing their job to close with and engage the shooter. I my mind he does incur liability for doing so.philip964 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:45 am https://news.yahoo.com/florida-deputys- ... 22990.html
Florida deputy has no right to protect says his defense team to judge.
Then there is this:
Peterson knew that Cruz was nicknamed “Crazy Boy” by campus security guards when he was a student two years before the shooting — and that he was considered by school staff to be the one person who could shoot up the school.
Yet, he did not have Cruz committed for mental treatment before the shooting, Brill argued. And just before the shooting — when Peterson learned Cruz had been spotted back on campus carrying a bag and backpack — the deputy didn't order an immediate lock down.
“His primary reason for being there was for the safety, health and welfare of the students and the faculty,” Brill said of Peterson. “He had a duty to protect the administration, the teachers and students to a variety of unreasonable risks, including active shooters.”

Apparently very busy. No place but Florida.

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida
Apparently the FBI was warned more than once....the bureau received tips about Cruz, including his amassing of weapons and his desire to shoot up a school, but agents failed to intervene and prevent the violence.
The FBI were probably too busy working to overthrow the President of the United States of America and leading the Atomwaffen Division to protect innocent school children. I wish I was joking.

What always got me was the deputy told other law enforcement to stay away. He took ownership of the response at that point.

It couldn't be clearer that the Parkland shooting was allowed to happen. The blame should fall on those who were in the most senior positions of authority...Sheriff Israel and the school administration.Mike S wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 9:44 am Take a deep breath before reading this article. It'll make your blood boil that this psychopath was coddled to this extent. "Crazy Boy" was an accurate description.

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida
I'm curious to see what evidence gets presented in court. What Scot Peterson did was more than just inaction. He effectively ordered a stand down over the radio, telling every other responder to stay away while the shooting continued and victims were bleeding out. I'm not sure Peterson ever notified incident command when the shooting stopped, which also cost time/lives.

Criticism of the coward of Broward.
I’d have to put some blame on the bosses.
Did they train their men on what to do?
Training allows you to act immediately.
There is some truth to what Peterson said in his report. Scott Israel's department had inadequate training and Israel's instructions allowed the Peterson to stand down.Peterson blamed Broward County sheriff Scott Israel for the criticism directed at him, saying Israel “made me his ‘personal and political scapegoat’ to take the ‘onus’ off of himself and place the blame on me for the massacre at my school.”

In my mind the best thing that could happen would be to remove Scott Israel. I for one do not trust the authorities in South Florida (the sheriff and Deborah Wasserman Schultz among them)philip964 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 11:28 am https://news.yahoo.com/florida-governor ... 06557.html

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida
From the report:
Maybe I missed it, but this report appears to whitewash the other reports that the school had been informed that Nikolas Cruz had talked about being a school shooter. It does document that Nikolas Cruz had a lifelong history of mental problems that could only be addressed by schooling him separately from the general population and that he was a threat to himself and othersThe student was referred for evaluation in January 2002 at the age of three...He had recently been asked to leave a private prekindergarten program due to behaviors such as running, kicking, and biting...
The student was 3 years, 5 months old at the time of the evaluation. Results revealed delays in all developmental areas, with overall functioning "similar to a child who has just turned two years of age.”
...Academically, the IEP stated that his limited attention span made it difficult to participate in class and comprehend basic concepts. Social interaction was most challenging. He had begun to interact with classmates but required “maximum teacher assistance” and engaged in parallel play most of the time, meaning he would play near other children, but did not interact with them. Aggression such as biting, pinching, scratching, and hair pulling were reported.
...The student was five years, eight months old when the [next] evaluation was completed....It must be noted that in particular, [the student] seems to identify as an animal. He often crawls on the floor or ground, pounces on another student, makes seemingly animal-like growling sounds and grimaces while holding his hands in a paw-like manner.... With high levels of reinforcement, the behaviors reduced, but his aggressive behaviors appeared to be unpredictable
...Since the onset of the 2007 school period, he has had a marked increase in behavioral outbursts to include physical aggression as well as “shut down” behaviors requiring physical removal from the regular education classroom setting on a minimum of 4 out of 5 days and several times a day on certain days. [The student] also demonstrates behaviors that can last in duration as well as intensity.
...[April 2013]In the classroom setting [the student] causes unnecessary disruptions during class. Recently, the disruptions are all inappropriate for school and at times require removal from the classroom (i.e., screaming, using profanity).
...[2014]Many people may wonder why a student with 28 referrals was still in school. As described elsewhere in this report, as a student with a disability, federal and state law mandate the continuation of services during periods of suspension.
...As can be seen, the pattern of behavioral shifts originally observed in the elementary grades continued into middle school, but at a much higher level of intensity
...At this same time another student reported that he had spoken to her about depression and suicidal thoughts, and that he said he drank gasoline in an effort to hurt himself and had engaged in cutting behavior.

Parkland Report Finds School Had Plenty Of Warning, Might Have Prevented Attack
...with a Baker Act admission on his record, he wouldn’t have been able to purchase the AR-15 he used to commit this atrocity. In other words, they had the power to have prevented this act, yet they didn’t.
Meanwhile, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel has been trying to make this all about the NRA. His department dropped the ball. Broward County Schools dropped the ball. Pretty much everyone dropped the ball.

Also heard this was a good way to act insane and avoid any responsibility for what he did.
Schizophrenia. Most mass attacks are done my schizophrenics. While not all schizophrenics are violent, and 70% are treatable and can recover... the 30% that are untreatable should not be left to their own devices. Every day in Texas schizophrenics are held medically for 2 or 3 days and then released back to the street. Its bad for schizophrenics and for society.
All the gun bans in the world won't stop untreatably mentally ill people like Thomas Linze Johnson from using a machete to murder.

Re: FL: Active shooter at high school in South Florida
Not following Gualtieri's reasoning on this. The Promise program kept Cruz out of jail for at least 1 of the crimes he committed... maybe it was only a misdemeanor, but wouldn't being in jail "affect his ability to buy that AR-15"? Because to me it sounds like Cruz should have been in jail already.Gualtieri said the Promise program was not to blame for the school shooting, according to the Miami Herald. “It would never in any way, shape, form, would’ve affected his ability to buy that AR-15, to buy the shotguns, to buy anything else, to possess them,” he said.
This unarmed kid was locked up and fought a 5 year court battle for making a horrific joke about school shooting (he plead down two felony charges of making a terroristic threat).
Cruz wasn't joking when he made threats and was armed. No jail. No charges. Sad that there were so many enablers.
