some stats I read (always wonder what the methodology was) show that the
top 2 states re: highest percentage of residents with carry permits were:
Alabama and Indiana.
Lott is a statistician so he isn't going to toss out statistics casually. His numbers on crime statistics have withstood the gun grabbing critics. Tha being said The numbers seem very high to me also. One thing should be noted though, is that states like Alsaka, probably have 80-90% gun ownership, but hardly anyone will bother getting a CHL. Whats the point? unless one makes visits outside the sates. Rven then their neigbors consist of Canada Oregon. and Kalifornia.

I don't know what the rules are in Alabama, but if the prices cheap, enough the process fast enough, and the training easy enough. They could gather many more people. Massachusetts, being very unfriendly to unlicensed gun owners probably has a very high rate of LTC/CHL. Here in Texas we have concealed carry, in our homes and in our vehicles. We can legally buy handguns without permission from the state. The process has a reputation of being long expencive and the expensive training. Although its got easier, it wasn't long ago we paid $140 buck for the privilege of applying, $100 plus for the training, and at least a full day of training, not including passport photos and fingerprints. A breakdown by states can be found here
