If you are in a defense mode your goal if you shoot is to STOP the goblin. Shooting anyone with the intent to kill, could result in you being the "badguy" If the bad guy stops doing the bad things, and stops being a danger there is no longer a reason to make more holes into the bad guy. Capping a a BG after he has dropped his weapon laying face down with a pool of blood comming from his chest would make you a murderer.
