I'm not sure, but I think it is because one of the Volokh's at The Volokh Conspiracy blog now hosted by the Washington Post brought it up as an wildly blatant infringement of 2A rights.

...and the problem with that is... I hope the Reps say okeydokey and go home.[/quote]

The problem is mostly philosophical...as it amounts to extortion. More significantly, it isn't even extortion of the Republicans, but of those who have absolutely nothing to do with the matter and no control over it.

I suspect it's mostly hollow rhetoric and rationally the Republicans would have no choice but to walk out....but these days assuming rational behavior from the GOP may be a mistake, so who knows what they'd do.

The fact that they're are still trying is not "new", only the latest details. It's interesting to note that the facial justification for this is to keep assistant DAs from being shot by the cops simply for having a gun.
The documents posted show the start date of this to be in 2006, so it has been policy for around 9 nine years. I haven't seen reported why it became enough of an issue now for it to be rescinded.

BTW, the DA candidate I alluded to said that Cuomo has called on the Democrats in the NY State Assembly to shut down the government until the Republicans agree to more gun control. I haven't even seen that mentioned on Drudge.

Re: Nassau county strips DA employee gun rights

Not old news. I heard this being discussed on the radio last night by a candidate running for DA of Staten Island. As she said, notably absent from the reports and discussion is any consideration for the right of a spouse or other occupant of the home, not employed by the DA's office, to exercise their right to own a handgun. She didn't seem to think it was legal or enforceable.
