This past Thursday.....Cabela's in Buda, virtually no magazines, no bulk ammo --they had .223 and 7.62 and most other handgun and rifle ammo in limited supply rationed 10 boxes per customer. No 22 LR.
Stopped at four different Walmarts, no ..223, 7.62, not much handgun ammo, and no 22 LR.
Academy, slim pickings....a few boxes of 22 LR high velocity....no bulk ammo, no .223 or 7.62, little handgun ammo.

Victoria All Sports has no .223. They did have a few boxes of Chinese 7.62, $6 per 20, limit 5 per customer. They had some CCI standard velocity 22LR (3 or 4 boxes?), a scattering of other rifle ammo, and 50 round boxes of most common handgun ammo.
I'm hoping to find a different story next week at Cabela's in Buda.

Yeah, I'm sort of surprised....I expected them to be out of .223 and 7.62, but I wasn't expecting a run on other calibers, handgun ammo, or 22 LR. Even the UK allows people to own .22's. I've got .22 on hand, but was planning to go shooting on Wednesday, and wanted to pick some up for the range.

Went to my local Walmart today: No 7.62, no .223 or 5.56, no 9mm (except two 20 round boxes of HP), no .45 ACP, one box of .40, and no .22 LR --not even CCI, all they had was .22 short, and not much of that. They didn't have much other rifle ammo either....a little .17 and 30-30 and a couple boxes each of some of the less common calibers like 22-250.

You must be going to big city Walmarts. I bought a shotgun the other day and when the young clerk saw my CHL the conversation was all about what he had to do to get one himself. I'll double check our local WM. But it seems like there is always somebody different at that counter. Last time I went the gal couldn't even find 9mm, another customer spotted it. I bought 3 boxes, and I heard her talking to the other clerk there saying with a hint of amazement "So they can just come in and buy that much?"

The best price I usually see is a Federal 100 round box at Walmart for $19.97. Sometimes they have it, sometimes they don't....but the best chance of finding it is usually at the smaller stores. At not to bad a price, the local Walmart has UMC 250 rounds for $59.99, though they're currently out of the Federal 100 round box.knotquiteawake wrote:These shortages and price hikes couldn't have come at a worse time.
