Re: Michael Badnarik Dallas TX Dec 3rd 2010

I had to look up Michael Badnarik to figure out who he is.
Michael Badnarik

However, when I look up the Texas Militia, I can't get a straight answer on who they are. It appears that they are a para-military gun rights group with Libertarian and Constitutionalist conservative leanings and that Michael Badnarik is the Dallas-area squad commander, meaning he is one of an approximate 7-11 people in the Dallas area who meets monthly for dinners and trainings in the group's areas of interest. I couldn't find a particular list of activities, and on the contrary found an emphasis on local leadership, but their banner logo includes a seal which says, "Defending Liberty" and a tag line that says, "Protecting the Texas border." Those are extremely broad and could imply a number of positive or not so positive things.

One thing they clearly want you to know is that "The Texas Militia is not racist. We let patriotic men and women USA Citizens of all races join the Texas Militia. We have Black, Hispanic, and Jewish members besides White Christian members." "You can become a Texas Militia member when you meet face to face with us at one of our meetings..." but "Your involvement with the Texas Militia means that you are going to actively work toward restoring this nation to its Constitutional roots on a regular basis. That also means that being a member of the Texas Militia requires that you participate on a regular basis in meetings and trainings or other events that are planned." The types of topics, events, trainings, etc that are typically hosted or encouraged is not something I've been able to find (though many they list on their website are by invitation only), which would be critical information for discerning interest or involvement in the group.

It's still very vague and secretive seeming to me from what I can find. It might not be intentional as what they do might be common knowledge among most who might be interested in joining, but their websites don't seem to address that.
