Re: How and where to get started in compition

Do a google search for U.S.P.S.A. and I.D.P.A. clubs in Texas, as many of them also run 3-gun matches.

There are quite a few shooters who get humbled and / or discouraged when they show up at a match for the first time and see the proficiency level of some of the more experienced shooters. RARELY, if ever, do you see "A" class level shooters at the local gun ranges, let alone the Masters or the Grand Master class. Those muldoons can SHOOT. Sadly, a lot of new folks never come back due to the fact that they set their expectations too high and weren't competitive. DON'T worry about that, and when you show up, just focus on being safe, having fun, and doing the best you can do that day. If you stick with it, you WILL become a better shooter.

As you get to know your fellow shooters, you can find the ones who like to shoot a lot and car pool to some of the further matches. Gas gets expensive. :)

Regardless of how often you want to shoot, I wish you luck, and encourage you to stick with it, as experience in competition is one of the easiest ways to develop and maintain your shooting proficiency.
