I like it! You could end it with the prof, lying in a hospital bed, talking to a friend. The friend says out loud, "If there was only something that would keep you safe on the way to your car."

Then bring up the same last screen in my example: "Campus Carry - It's not about the classroom."

Private universities are still able to "opt out" and it looks like some public universities are going to try to make it as difficult as possible. It feels like we're only dipping a toe into CC and there''s a lot more to be done before it will really feel like we truly have it.

Campus Carry: Why do we push the wrong issue?

It seems like every campus carry discussion centers around the active shooter scenario. While it's true a good guy with a gun stands a better chance of stopping a shooter, a Texas college student probably has a better chance of hitting the lottery than facing an active shooter in class.

Very little discussion focuses on the more likely scenario of students being crime victims on their way to, from, or between classes. I would like to see the NRA, TSRA, or whoever run a series of TV ads something like this:

The add opens with two girls walking along in the evening, discussing the class they just left. Suddenly they are approached by two undesirable males who immediately start making unwanted advances. Just as they grab the girls, the screen goes black. Next is a static display of a Waco newspaper with a headline that reads, "Two Baylor students found raped and murdered".

Now we see a similar scene (two girls doing the same as before). When they are accosted, one of them (the older one) pulls out a handgun and points it at one of the bad guys. (A red laser dot on his chest would make a good visual.) Suddenly, the two guys remember an urgent appointment elsewhere and take off running into the darkness. The younger girl (both are obviously shaken) turns to the older one who is just putting away her pistol. "You know, I turn 21 next week. Will you help me get my license to carry?" Fade to black.

Next is a screen which reads, "Which ending would you want for your daughter?"

The last screen: "Campus Carry - It's not about the classroom."

I know it's rough around the edges, but what do you think of the idea?
