Re: WWII: Eyewitness to the sinking of the Yorktown

As a volunteer at Lone Star Flight Museum I have had the honor in meeting many WWII veterans.

One day years ago I noticed an elderly gentleman with “Yorktown” on his hat. I went up to him and asked: “first Yorktown or second Yorktown”? (The Navy named several replacement carriers after those that had been sunk early in the war-Hornet, Lexington -the one at Corpus Christi - and Yorktown).
He said he was on the first Yorktown and was at Midway. He was a Marine and his battle Station was one of the 20mm anti aircraft guns.
After the Yorktown he said he participated in several of the amphibious landings in the Pacific.
