To lay all the blame on movies and games as the cause of violence is just as bad as the anti gunners blaming guns or assault weapons as the cause.

Scientifically, it is easily proven that movies and video games are not the cause. All you have to do is point to one person that has not gone on a killing rampage from watching violent movies and playing violent video games. There are in fact millions of people that don't commit crimes that do so. Of course nobody wants to talk about them, it's not sensational enough.

A cause is universal or it is not the cause.

Now you could also try to point out that A + B + C + D = violent behavior, but I bet for every A, B, C & D, I could also point out somebody that was exposed to those factors and still did not commit violent acts.

The problems are with the actor, not the outside influences.
Oh come on. Humans don't live in a vacuum. Your surroundings influence your actions. It's ludicrous to think that you act completely independently of the influences that surround you on a daily basis.

Seriously? You have heard of yelling fire in a crowded theatre, right?

No. The First Amendment is even more inviolate then the Second.
Exact same argument pornographers use. Like any right, there are limits to the first amendment too. The first amendment protects you from governmental oppression for political speech. It does not grant you the right to offend every Tom, Dick and Harry in the public square.
Its not in the public square.
That's laughable. Try telling the federal government that what is broadcast over the airwaves isn't public. They charge large fees for the use of those airwaves you claim aren't public.

nightmare69 wrote:So what are you wanting to do here? Ban violent games and movies? Just like guns, violent games and movies are here to stay. I will continue to play and watch them and I have no disire to commit acts of violence.
Well, one thing we can do is pass laws that forbid violent movies or shows during hours when children are likely to be home. We actually used to have standards for TV that didn't permit such crap. There's nothing wrong with having such laws except that people don't want the laws. We could pass laws that don't allow violent videos to be sold to children.

No.

While violent movies and games are not uplifting neither are they the cause of violent crime.

Were I on a jury and heard a defense of: The violent movie/game I watched made me do it, I wouldn't be persuaded...
Yes, but you miss the point. There's an old aphorism that you can't get in a pig sty without getting some on you. The same is true of violence in movies and in games. They affect your mindset. They change the culture, and not in a good way. Can you blame someone's behavior on them? No. But it's naive to think that they have no effect whatsoever.

Why do you think that Hollywood makes so many movies that promote the liberal point of view? Because they think they will have no impact at all? There's a cumulative effect, and you are seeing it in the society now. Less respect for honor. Having children out of wedlock is no longer shameful. Abortion is considered a good thing. Younger members of society see nothing wrong with killing and stealing. Foul language is routine and non-controversial. All of these things have changed in my lifetime.

Every man is responsible for his own behavior and actions. One cannot blame video games for one's actions. But one can certainly blame our rotten, stinking, immoral society on the flood of filth with which we are surrounded, and that includes violent movies and violent video games.
