I agree with Jusme and Bayoutalker. I've been on our neighborhood watch team for a while now. I just ride around in my car (no markings) and look for anything or anyone suspicious. If I see something I call it in and stay back, just be eyes and ears, as I know you've heard before, distance is your friend.

I've seen things like a car pulls up and parks in a common area like the pool or park, 1 or 2 younger males get out with backpacks and take off on foot. Younger males on bicycles with backpacks riding around the neighborhood checking out houses. I've seen a guy on foot going from driveway to driveway looking in cars, the funny thing about this one was he had his backpack on backwards so he could access his burglary tools easier. Each time I've called the SO and they get here quick. They have told us to never hesitate calling in. The common thing I've seen is backpacks.

Also, I call the SO before I go out to let them know what I'm doing and make sure they have a description of me and my car, ie, plate number, make, model, color.
