For years they have not been checking ID at the entrance. Now they are and have a sign. All I did was ask the guy at the door why and he said because of the shooting down south. I posted only to show the failure of corporate logic. Not to hear that they always do it and not for someone to tell me it is a requirement for years when that is not true over the last 5 years or so. You know, the people on this forum either don't read previous posts or just seem to want to argue about nothing. I posted my experience and what I was told. Take it for whatever you all want.

My experience at my local Sam's Club is the same as yours. They required ID and then they didn't check for years. I don't remember when they started checking again but I believe that it was earlier than the El Paso shooting. I didn't think anything about it since corporate policies seem to change on a regular basis.
To underscore my point, I keep a bag of change with me in my vehicle. I rarely keep change in my pocket so when I make a cash purchase and get coins back, throw them in my change bag. In the past when the change bag got heavy, I would empty it, wrap the coins by type and take them to the bank, depositing them into my account. One time, the bank personnel treated me badly, saying that wrapped coins could not be dealt with and made a show of dumping my wrapped coins into a heavy plastic back, mixing them all together and they broken open the wrappers. They then sealed the bag and set it off. A couple of days later, the deposit showed up in my account. I followed that process a couple of more times, showing up with a plastic bag of mixed coins, having them seal it and send it off. Last week, I tried the same thing again.
This time, I was taken aside by one of the bank employees who sat with me as we used his plastic "counter" to stack the coins and then he and I wrapped them. He gave me paper money in exchange. When I inquired about when the policy had changed and how I was supposed to know about such changes, he shrugged his shoulders. I'm happy to play by the rules but need to know what they are. They seem to be able to send me emails and USPS marketing in vast quantities. Sam's Club does the same. Apparently the rule makers never talk to the salespeople. Somehow, I'm not surprised. Just my $.02. I don't trust anything that any of the regular employees say about corporate policy. They are as far out of that loop as I am.
