Re: Question about Carrying Out of State

Marty was living dangerously for a brief period!
As I read that description, the trailer was parked at Grand Island and they were crossing the border with the truck only. I don't blame them for doing that.

Crossing the Canadian border with an RV can be a wallet lightening experience. While the Canadians are fussy about Americans with guns, they are as fussy about food items and alcohol. It is no better in some places with re-entry into the US. Hundreds of dollars in fines are possible for not carefully reading the US and Canadian border websites about prohibited food items We did a trip similar to OP but since I knew that we were going into Canada, all of the guns stayed at home. We got the same questions from the Canadian border guard - did we have any guns with us? Did we own any guns? We passed through with no problems but they do strip search RVs if they think you are not telling them the truth.

Buffalo is about 90 minutes from PA (Erie).
:iagree: We had a trip a couple of years ago where we went to Mystic Seaport, CT for a week and then across NY to Niagara Falls, staying on the Canadian side to go across Ontario afterward. Of course, we did not take any guns on that trip. While you can get many places from VT as day trips, you cannot get from Buffalo to a safe gun place with a travel trailer heading East without unnatural driving.

From a gun law enforcement perspective, the Buffalo area is probably closer to NYC than most of the rest of the state. And the Port Authority police, which man the bridges are the most aggressive in my experience. We lived near the NY Thruway in NJ for a number of years and discovered that the Port Authority officers are not under the control of any of the surrounding electorate. An out of State license plate could be your ticket to many more problems than you thought possible.
